Typically, sometime in June, however depending on the weather this will vary. For the 2024 season we
are hoping to open our strawberry tunnels 22nd June. This year it has been a particularly cold and wet
spring, hence the predicted end of June opening.
We have been growing strawberries since 1976. Originally, strawberries were planted in the ground
the autumn before the season. Over the years, we’ve transitioned to growing our strawberries on
tabletops. Since 2020 all our strawberries have been grown this way, significantly improving the ease
of picking and quality of the fruit, plus remaining dry with the unpredictable British weather.
Additionally, it is more ergonomic for our farm team, making the work less strenuous.
However, in reality this doesn’t always happen the weather is a wildcard and sometimes there is a
lag between the first crop ending and the second crop coming into fruit. In the meantime, when this
happens, we do have lots of other crops available and will always advertise when we have a very
limited amount of strawberries in between crops, so that you are aware when planning to visit and
The number of timeslots (tickets) we release per day is based on our fruit availability. For example, if
we have a good pick of strawberries we will release more timeslots and be flexible about booking and allow walk ins.
However, when the strawberries are in limited supply, prebooking will be essential and the number of timeslots reduced. Furthermore, at times of low crop, no
walk ins will be allowed and only those who have prebooked will be allowed entry.
